The bow maker Bruno Sporcq, based in Saint Denis (close to Mons) is dedicated to the most thorough research into historical bows, from early European times to the advent of the modern bow at the end of the 18th century.

The son of musicians and early music enthusiasts he was drawn towards instrument making as an autodidact in the early '90s.

After building several viola da gambas and rebecs he worked together with Ivan de Halleux on the construction of a copy of a harpsichord by Johannes Dulcken and simultaneously began making historical bows, supported and guided by musician friends.
