Masterclass of Early Music of Namur |
|
|
Namur, 7th to 12th of July 2008 |
A week of intensive exchange and music-making
The academy is intended for
- those who wish to develop their knowledge of Early Music
- musicians with modern training who would like to discover early instruments
- players interested in exploring 17th- and 18th-century style on their modern instruments
- chamber music groups, both instrumental and vocal
- those seeking to meet other like-minded musicians, open to new visions on interpretation
- people who are curious about historical bowmaking and stringed instrument setup.
During the Academy, participants have free access to all of the concerts in the "Festival Musical de Namur".
Participation is limited to ensure optimum quality of teaching.
Vocal Polyphony : Bruno Boterf
- This workshop is open to all who can read music fluently.
- Repertoire will be from the late 16th century, studied mainly in unaccompanied vocal quartets
- Individual advice on vocal technique will be offered to participants as needed.
- Academy members from the instrumental classes are invited to join the workshop if interested.
Chamber music : Benoit Douchy
- This section is open to pre-existing chamber music groups who wish to concentrate on certain aspects of the repertoire without necessarily having individual lessons as well.
- Lessons are also available for other academy members wishing to work on chamber repertoire.
- Instrumental teachers will also coach chamber music if their schedule permits.
- We welcome enthusiastic amateur chamber groups in this section.
A special reduced fee is offered to groups who sign up together!
Bowmaking : Bruno Sporcq
Although bowmaking is now a profession in itself, this has not always been the case! In the 16th and 17th centuries, musicians often used bows they made themselves from locally-grown wood
- Participation in this workshop requires no previous experience, and non-musicians are of course also welcome.
- Each member will make a 17th-century baroque bow with a clip-in frog; choice of instrument is open.
- The class is limited to seven participants.
Musicians often live with a certain level of physical discomfort. Should we accept this as a necessary evil?
Continuing in the philosophy of Métamusique, the Namur Summer Academy would like to offer musicians some tools for understanding the sources of pain and tension, as well as ideas towards transforming them.
We have therefore invited Masato Matsuura, Nô actor and swordmaster, to join our Academy, transmitting some basic elements of these venerable japanese art-forms and help us gain a greater bodily awareness.
- Moderately priced single-rooms are available in the buildings of a local boarding school, 10 minutes walk from the centre of town.
- On our website you can also find a list of adresses for holiday accomodation and bed&breakfast in the region (gites et maison hôtes)
- The Hotel de Flandre, in the centre of Namur, is offering a reduced price to Academy members who book through our office.
Midday and evening meals are provided on the Academy premises.
